I've had Hidradenitis Suppurativa since the age of 8. I can't say I remember my life without the lesions, flares and the two strikingly different pain sensations. I am fortunate enough to be in a family with doctors, who understood my condition and never made me feel different to others, as they constantly searched for something to bring me relief. Although on most days I would go along my life, ignoring or attempting to ignore the pain, there were days where looking at my own reflection made me want to crawl out of my own skin.
I still remember, so well, that the worst part of this journey was to be told that nothing could be done. Or to be given options that may work on my HS, but would compromise my body and I would end up facing severe conditions and even life threatening ones. I never opted for any of such treatments.
Just over a year ago my parents found out that the Eliava Institute was still seeing patients for phage therapy. Phage therapy was nothing new to them, however they thought it was completely buried away and only found in history books. I went for a general form of treatment, which was more an elimination process to see, blindly, which phage would work and which didn't and along the way I found relief.
The results weren't instant and after a few months, the phages needed to be changed around, however the pain was gone. It's been just over a year now and with the combination of phages and intermittent fasting, I've managed to reach a state of what one would call remission in the HS world.
I run a lifestyle blog https://www.innakay.blog/ and decided to upkeep a promise I made to myself when I was still a kid. I shared my story and keep sharing updates on my progress. Maybe, this therapy could reach someone and could give them a little relief from the ongoing battle they live with.
