What Should be in Your HS Emergency Kit

You know the feeling, it always happens at the worst time when you’re not prepared for it; an HS emergency. Below is a list of things to keep on hand in an “HS Kit”, which can be kept in your purse, bag, backpack, tote bag, Ziploc bag, etc. Some people choose to keep one in their purse and another in their car or at work so there’s always one nearby. It is also helpful to keep a spare set of clothes handy if drainage tends to be an issue for you.

Suggested items for your kit:

  • Different bandages, gauze, ABD (ab pads) or period pads* for drainage and additional cushioning

  • Tape for bandages

  • A small pair of scissors

  • Small/Travel size baby wipes or witch hazel wipes

  • Travel hand sanitizer

  • Pain reliever

  • Hydrocortisone cream for itching

  • Lidocaine (numbing)

  • “Down There Wipes” for women to help clean and freshen up

  • “Below the Belt Wipes” for men to help clean and freshen up

  • An extra Ziploc bag or two to put soiled clothing in

  • Extra pair of undergarments

Optional adds:

  • Drawing salve

  • Small bottle with salt water, witch hazel, or apple cider vinegar. (This can be used to clean your clothing, or your affected areas and can be used for smell.)

  • Tide stain stick or pen

  • Body spray or perfume

*Gentlemen, please do not dismiss the thought of pads for your use. They are very versatile and with the sticky back are a wonderful addition to any HS kit. If buying them yourself in person is not an option, order on Amazon or borrow from your wife/significant other. We implore you to give them a try!
